View the walking narrative experience
Surname is a site-based, walking narrative experience set in San Francisco's Chinatown. This project reimagines the neighborhood as both a living archive and a narrative landscape, spanning the pivotal decades from the 1860s to the 1930s, from the Transcontinental Railroad to wartime fundraising.
To bridge documented history and collective memory, this project draws on selected moments from a self-authored historical fiction, anchoring them within the physical geography of the streets. Participants explore real alleys and landmarks through a combination of a printed exploration kit, puzzle-solving, and augmented reality, moving between material artifacts and on-site storytelling.
The title, Surname, is a metaphor: three characters across different generations, bound by a shared name, offer a localized and deeply human entry point into an era of monumental change.

Based on inspirations from cyanotype and “false color”, this project reinterprets the journey through Iceland from the perspective of both a traveler and an interaction designer. BLAR blends web programming, photography, storytelling and graphic design to document the landscapes, culture and fleeting moments that define my experience of being in Iceland.
This projects aims to create a visual narrative that transcends documentation—it becomes a subjective but resonant work on storytelling, interpretation and the way we frame our relationship with a new place.

The Tracks Stretch On (2024)

This project takes the form of two interconnected publications. The first is an accordion book that brings together photographs taken during the journey in Japan, forming a visual narrative of “on the way” and “stop.” The second is a ticket archive, a booklet containing tickets collected throughout the trip, each attached to transparent film pages that form a layered record.
This work emerges from a winter journey through Japan (2024–2025), with a particular focus on Tokyo, Hokkaido, and the experience of traveling on tracks. It records the transitional moments between stations, cities, and landscapes, engaging with themes of travel, “being on the way,” and the unfolding continuity. It considers how a journey can be documented, organized, and revisited through different forms of representation.

UNBOUND(2025)

An experimental publication that explores Fanfiction as both a subject and a form. Structured around key fanfiction practices—from tags, POVs, and alternate universes to reader comments and bootleg culture—the book examines how stories are rewritten, shared, and transformed. Fanfiction becomes both the topic and the methodology, shaping the publication’s content, structure, typography, and material choices. Through this approach, Unbound investigates authorship, storytelling, and the freedom to imagine stories otherwise.
